About the Course
In the UK, schools and nurseries must have staff members who possess a current paediatric first aid certificate. This certification ensures that staff are equipped with essential first aid skills tailored to infants and children, enabling them to effectively handle medical emergencies within educational environments.
Requirements for paediatric first aid in schools and nurseries may vary depending on the governing body or local authority. However, general standards set by the Department for Education (DfE) stipulate that there should be at least one staff member with a valid paediatric first aid certificate present on the premises whenever children are in attendance.
DfE guidelines recommend that paediatric first aid training covers essential topics such as CPR for infants and children, management of choking incidents, treatment of common childhood injuries and illnesses, recognition and response to allergies and anaphylactic shock, and understanding and managing medical conditions like asthma and diabetes.
The Level 3 Paediatric First Aid e-learning course can be integrated into blended learning programs, provided that a minimum of 6 hours of the training is conducted face-to-face.
